This lessens banding artifacts (mostly caused by Vignette) #define USE_BORDER 0 // [0 or 1] Border : Makes the screenedge black as a workaround for the bright edge that forcing some AA modes sometimes causes. #define USE_SPLITSCREEN 0 // [0 or 1] Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode. #define USE_CUSTOM 0 // [0 or 1] Custom : Write your own shader by editing custom.h, and then enable it here. /*-----------------------------------------------------------. / SMAA Anti-aliasing settings / '-----------------------------------------------------------*/ #define SMAA_THRESHOLD 0. // [0.05 to 0.20] Edge detection threshold. But if you don't look straight into one?
Also, it's not just the lamps. What about the skybox, well lit surfaces, ect...? What I'm saying is that you can brighten up those "parts" by using other shaders without the risk of losing too much color bandwidth.

I like how the lamps get blown out in the middle though, It's realistic. If you were to look straight into one, theres going to be no detail.

It's the Dither shader that actually works now. It does a really good job at killing banding but it is a little too strong in Thief (64 bit exec?). I managed to tone it down by editing it's shader file and changing:
under "Random Dithering"
float dither_shift = (1.0
to
float dither_shift = (0.3

You can use any value from 1.0 to 0.0
This tweak works only if you're using random dithering (value 2) in the sfx settings.

It's not a bad config but you're losing too much detail by blowing out the whites so much. Blacks are ok. Don't use "Levels" ...ever... :) you can see right in the description it says it causes clipping (loss of detail). Use tonemapping gamma, hdr, curves and LGG to tweak the "brightness". My suggestion would be to find a place in the game where you can see the purest white and the darkest black in one screen and then tweak away. GL

Glad to hear its fixed! :D

Whatever it was, the V1.1 fixed it. probably was something on my side.

Very odd, I don't see it, even in that screenshot.

Maybe filmgrain was not the exact term, but i didn't know how to call it.

let's take for example the 4th screenshot, the one with the "gate" and the single source of light.

watching at the full size image, if you look at the dark areas , either the other wall behind or the one at the top left of the image, u can see this.....filter?..(sorry but yet no idea how to call it XD) made of little "points". a lot of them.

in the illuminated area it is not noticeable (and probably contributes to the good visual effect). but after playing for a while in dark areas it annoys the eyes.

in no one of the others presets, like the omnifx, there's the same effect XD

So I went through and don't notice any film grain, except during a certain area where there is dust or snow or whatever it's suppose to be floating in the air. I uploaded another screenshot to show you and see if its what you're seeing.

That's weird, I'll definitely look into it.

great preset. definetly the cleanest. the fog no longer covers everything making you unable to even see the textures of the walls lol. the lighting is good too and the colors are more vivid.

there is only 1 thing annoying me. unless i'm going crazy, there is some kind of filmgrain made of little points even if the Filmgrain setting is disabled. sometimes it looks very good but for most of the time it is just annoying, especially in dark places. how can i remove it?
