Deep Sea Nightmares

Preset description:
NOTE: This Preset requires running Bioshock in DX10 (.ini tweaks below), as well as selecting DX10 during the ReShade install. Short Description: This preset is intended to give colors and textures a more realistic feel while accentuating the prominent deep sea blue-greens and dark negative spaces of Rapture. Lights have a brighter shine to them with subtle lens flares added, and the shadowy corners become more difficult to see (slight eye-adapt is used to balance some of the darkness a bit). The game is less bloomy than vanilla (despite the multitude of bloom effects utilized) and the blooms that are present add a small colorful glow to bright lights without looking overexposed. Rapture will feel gloomier than before, but its beauty is maintained. Detailed Description: These are all the effects used, as well as why I used them. I use some effects that make similar changes, but the individual settings allow me more control over the final result. Make sure you have all these effects installed before downloading this preset. FXAA (FXAA.fx) - Basic anti-aliasing, I always like to start with this unless the game itself does a good job already. Recommended to also have AA on in Bioshock menu. Normal_Filter_Anti_Aliasing (NFAA.fx) - Just discovered this form of anti-aliasing, it seems to do a nice job taking care of some things missed by FXAA. Filmic Anamorphic Sharpen (FilmicAnamorphSharpen.fx) - AA will make the game a little blurry, and Filmic Anamorphic Sharpen is a beautiful sharpener that tries to ignore edges of objects, however the edge detection may not actually work in Bioshock as there is no depth buffer. It is still a nice sharpener with a softer look than others. SharpContrast (SharpContrast.fx) - First time using this one. A bit harsher than LumaSharp or FilmicAnamorph but not too strong, just that last bit of sharpening I needed to put between the two. LumaSharpen (LumaSharpen.fx) - I love the way LumaSharpen's sharpness limiter works. It makes it so easy to add just a little bit of strongly enhanced detail without overdoing it. LevelsPlus (LevelsPlus.fx) - Balances out the colors, as well as lights and darks. The game now has less of a green-wash, leaving room for bluer water and more colorful deco architecture. Fire will also look more powerful than before. HDR (FakeHDR.fx) - Gives a wider color and brightness range. kind of like a unique brightness and contrast effect. NeoBloom (NeoBloom.fx) - My most often-used bloom. Quite subtle use of it here, just adds a little color-matching glow to very bright objects. BloomAndLensFlares (Bloom.fx) - No extra bloom added here, only lens flares. Subtle but still noticeable. Anamorphic flares have been colored a slightly-yellowish white to fit the aesthetic of the game. This can be disabled if you don't like flares. Bloom (qUINT_bloom.fx) - A very comfy-feeling bloom, so I only used a little. Softens up the image. This is also where the eye-adapt effect comes from. Setting eye-adapt too high can cause overexposed HUD in dark areas. AmbientLight (AmbientLight.fx) - Adds a realistic-looking glow to areas of the screen affected by light sources. It makes lights glow, but not quite bloom. Technicolor (Technicolor.fx) - Fine-tuning colors. Technicolor2 (Technicolor2.fx) - Fine-tuning colors. I just like the way the technicolor effect looks in some games. Curves (Curves.fx) - Final tweaks to overall contrast. Setup: Setup is mostly standard, aside from switching Bioshock from DX9 to DX10. This is done with some very easy .ini tweaks. SET YOUR SETTINGS IN THE IN-GAME MENU BEFORE PROCEEDING. 1. To find your .ini, open your file browser, click on "View," and make sure "Hidden Items" is checked. 2. The .ini should be in the folder C:\Users\(YOUR PC USERNAME)\AppData\Roaming\BioshockHD\Bioshock 3. Open Bioshock.ini 4. Use ctrl+F to find [Engine.Engine] category. 5. Under [Engine.Engine], look for RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice and change it to RenderDevice=D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10 6. ctrl+F to find [D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10] category, make it look like this (UseVSync is optional): [D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10] HighDetailActors=True SuperHighDetailActors=True UsePrecaching=True UseTrilinear=True UseHighDetailShadowMaps=True AdapterNumber=-1 ReduceMouseLag=False DesiredRefreshRate=60 UseVSync=True LevelOfAnisotropy=4 TesselationFactor=1.0 CheckForOverflow=False BatchRenderFlash=True 7. Save and exit (optionally, you can set the file to read only, however this will make the difficulty unchangeable, as well as disable developer films). 8. Go to your Bioshock installation folder. For Steam, this is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BioShock Remastered\Build\Final 9. Open Default.ini and repeat steps 4, 5, 6, 7. This will ensure that the game will always run in DX10, even in the case of a crash-reset. 10. Install ReShade and be sure to click DX10 option. Then download this preset and put it into the game's folder. Important: After opening the preset in-game, check for duplicated effects. If you have duplicates, you need to open your effects folder and delete ONE (not both) of the duplicated effects so you only have one. This is an issue with ReShade. Closing Notes: I hope everyone likes this preset, but if you don't like something about it, I would love to know so I can make better presets in the future. I'm new to this but really enjoying it :) Feedback is always important and appreciated. Also, this was made because I was unhappy with my previous preset "Deep Sea Dreams." This is not a remake, and in fact I had an entirely different feeling in mind for it. You can still try my "Deep Sea Dreams" preset if you like.

If someone has dark menus, disable sharp contrast in Reshade menu (Home).

Also, DX10 switch doesn't seem to do anything - the game stil runs in DX11 (Epic version).
