*2018 Graphics Overhaul Full Release

Created by AssassinsDecree
Added Jan. 19, 2018
Updated 22 Jun 23:55 CEST
Shader used: ReShade
Preset description:
Screenshots best viewed in fullscreen mode, makes a huge difference for some reason *If you want to have all my AC Origins resahdes installed and switch between them freely, use the lenz dirt file in this reshade, using the For-the-Brotherhood lens dirt file will break the bloom in most of my other reshadesl including this one. --- TLDR: Install this ReShade last and its additional files in the CRITICAL INSTRUCTIONS section and you'll be fine.
UPDATES - Version 1.3 released 6/22/2018 -Various and important DoF adjustments. - Version 1.2 released 2/22/2018 - slightly reduced the trigger for lens flares, so they shouldn't look as strong at night. - Version 1.1 released 2/9/2018 - updated close-range Depth-of-field (DoF) to be more pleasant. Increased the quality of the effect. That's it. - Complete Version released 2/8/2018 - You'll notice some cool lens/lighting effects on fires, and glowing weapons (like the Final Fantasy weapon and weapons on fire) now. I can't remember everything I changed, but it was a lot. It's pretty damned polished now. I really hope you guys like it, I almost gave up on trying to do this preset so many times, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Couple months of work at this point :) Cheers! - Beta Version released 2/6/2018 - changed almost everything from the previous version. This is probably what will be the final version, just doing some final testing to make sure everything looks as intended. ps: I have a HDR-version of this ready to go, I just need time to get the file ready and post it. Look for it later tonight, hopefully. I'm trying to finish vibrant versions of both this, the standard version, and the HDR version tonight too, but may take another day or so for that. So that'll be 4 different files in total. So this is 1/4. - Alpha Version 2 released 2/1/2017, 7:30 pm EST.
DESCRIPTION AND FEATURES This is a 2018 graphics overall I've been working on for AC Origins since December. For those familiar with my other AC Origins reshades, you may consider this the best amalgamation of all my previous presets, especially For the Brotherhood, Photorealism & Cinematic Effects, and my Grim and Cinematic reshades, along with other previously-released (and since taken down) projects. This ReShade adds a host of optional cinematic enhancements to the game as well as richer, more complex overall visuals. I tried to remain respectful of the vanilla art style and direction, while toning down the rather repugnant yellow filter over the game by default, so you'll now have more properly balanced colors. This preset adds tons of cinematic effects and enhances the visuals in every way without oversaturating, over-desaturating, washing-out, over-darkening, or over-sharpening, the image. While this is more realistic in some respects, I think, the goal was not necessarily realism as opposed to generally aiming to give you knock-your-socks-off visuals as often as possible. I've learned from listening to great game developers that sometimes realism in games and what feels immersive aren't always the same. Sometimes, certain elements need to be slightly exaggerated in games to actually make the player feel immersed in the moment, since we can't be there to experience the scenes in person. I used that game design philosophy when creating this ReShade while also peppering in things that just look plain cool just because. I hope you like it! Please follow all instructions for a proper install, especially the critical ones right below. This preset includes a host of optional cinematic features, like Depth-of-Field (DoF), bloom, film grain, letterboxing, and more! In fact, I've set up toggle keys for all the major cinematic effects I've added. And they're remappable with the in-game ReShade menu. Also, expect brighter and stronger light sources, darker nights and interiors, and shinier metals. Get it all here! Please let me know if you have any questions, but there's extensive documentation below on all sorts of things from detailed installation instructions to tutorials on how to adjust certain settings to your liking. Constructive feedback is welcomed, and kind words of thanks are extremely appreciated! Hope you like it! - Merc (see the very end of the description to understand why I signed like that).
CRITICAL INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!!! You must follow the steps in this Critical Instructions section after installing the reshade files from reshade.me. Instructions for installing the reshade files from reshade.me are below in the Installation section. 1) Once you've downloaded this, you MUST go to the in game Reshade "Settings" tab and make sure "RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED=1", make sure "RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_LOGARITHMIC=1", AND make sure "RESHADE_DEPTH_LINEARIZATION_FAR_PLANE=10000.0" (without the quotes, of course) and then go back to the main "Home" reshade menu tab and click "reload" at the bottom of that reshade menu. Failure to do this will render your entire screen 100% blurry while Depth-of-Field (DoF) is on. 2) After installing this reshade, you need to go to the dropbox link below and download the "reshade-shaders" folder and copy-paste-overwrite the folder in your main Assassins Creed Origins' folder, where the game's .exe files are: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5kaover0znlpb72/AADGBMVg8ydYQPlSRBQBDaTua?dl=0 3) If you finish the complete installation, including the steps in this Critical Instructions section, and things are still inexplicably and horribly blurry, it could be caused by TiltShift in some rare cases. Try disabling it. You can toggle it with 8 on the numberpad or in in-game reshade menu.
CRASHING AND UI/HUD FIX 1. For me, the game crashes if I use any form of ReShade or SweetFx in fullscreen mode. So you must enable borderless window mode to use ReShade if yours also crashes when trying to load the game with Reshade enabled. 2. Recently I've needed to rename my reshade files, "dxgi.ini" and "dxgi.dll" to "d3d11.ini" and "d3d11.dll", respectively, to get the game to stop crashing on launch. 3. Use the in-game screen calibration setting to adjust your UI to fit into the letterbox (black bars) 4. I've tested and optimized this ReShade for the game's default in-game brightness. Tested on Ultra settings.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE: All the DoF effects you see are from the ReShade's DOF, not the one that come with the game's photo mode. So this DoF is active whenever you're actually playing the game, not just in screenshots. Bloom and Lens Flares: Adjust fBloomThreshold or the fBloomAmount up or down in very small increments (of about 10 or 20) until you are happy with how much bloom you want. Increasing fBloomThreshold the value will give less bloom, while increasing fBloomAmount will give you more bloom. To disable the lens flares from bright lightsources at night, like the torch or firebombs, look under the Bloom effect in the ReShade in-game menu and look for the setting "bAnamFlareEnable" and change it from on to off with the drop down menu. You can reduce the amount it effects button prompts by raising the value - manually type in a higher number under "bAnamFlarethreshold". I recommend raising the threshold value in increments of .001. At a total value of 1.0, the effect will never trigger. Brightness: If it is too dark lower the gamma setting in the in-game Reshade "Tonemap" setting in increments of 20. OR raise the "brightness" in the RehShade Technicolor 2 setting. DoF Quirks: To pull the DoF on far away out-of-focus areas closer to the player (and make it stronger), adjust DOF_FarBlurCurve up or down. Increasing the value will give less blur. To adjust blur on Bayek when looking at far away objects, adjust DOF_NearBLurCurve. I recommend a value of "2.2" (without the quotes). Raising the value will lower the blur. An oddity with AC Origins is that the ReShade's DoF can get deactivated by certain HUD/UI elements. I believe it most commonly is deactivated by the quest text in the upper left-hand corner and definitely by the compass. So if it sometimes cutting off is bothering you, I recommend either not tracking quests so the objective pops up on your screen and using the set way-point on the map feature instead OR switching the HUD preset in the game's "gameplay" menu option to minimal or off. The ReShade DoF will also cut off when you're in photo mode and the screenshot overlay grid thing pops up as you're adjusting the image, but the DoF will come right back on once that goes away (just leave the camera steady for a couple secs and the grid disappears) I LOVE DOF VERSION: For the extreme DoF version (which can still be tweaked to push the DoF far away from character), after you install this ReShade completely, open the .ini file and copy-paste this entire section over the DOF.fx section in the .ini file: [DOF.fx] DOF_FARBLURCURVE=1.437000 fADOF_ShapeCurvatureAmount=1.000000 DOF_AUTOFOCUS=4294967295 DOF_MOUSEDRIVEN_AF=0 fGPDOFChromaAmount=0.400000 DOF_INFINITEFOCUS=1.000000 fGPDOFBiasCurve=2.000000 DOF_FOCUSPOINT=0.700000,0.550000 bADOF_ShapeApertureEnable=0 DOF_FOCUSSAMPLES=10 DOF_MANUALFOCUSDEPTH=0.300000 DOF_NEARBLURCURVE=1000.000061 fGPDOFBrightnessMultiplier=2.000000 bGPDOFPolygonalBokeh=4294967295 fRingDOFFringe=0.500000 DOF_FOCUSRADIUS=0.051000 DOF_BLURRADIUS=7.000000 fADOF_BokehCurve=19.050001 iRingDOFSamples=30 iRingDOFRings=8 fGPDOFBrightnessThreshold=0.500000 fRingDOFThreshold=0.700000 bADOF_ShapeCurvatureEnable=4294967295 fRingDOFGain=30.000002 fRingDOFBias=2.000000 bADOF_ImageChromaEnable=0 iMagicDOFBlurQuality=8 fMagicDOFColorCurve=10.000000 iGPDOFQuality=6 fADOF_ShapeChromaAmount=0.000000 fADOF_ShapeRotation=0.000000 iGPDOFPolygonCount=5 fGPDOFBias=10.000000 fADOF_SmootheningAmount=0.000000 bMatsoDOFChromaEnable=0 fMatsoDOFChromaPow=0.200000 fMatsoDOFBokehCurve=7.130000 iADOF_ShapeQuality=38 iMatsoDOFBokehQuality=10 fMatsoDOFBokehAngle=0.000000 bADOF_RotAnimationEnable=0 fADOF_RotAnimationSpeed=0.000000 fADOF_ShapeWeightAmount=0.500000 fADOF_ShapeApertureAmount=0.006000 bADOF_ShapeAnamorphEnable=0 fADOF_ShapeAnamorphRatio=0.560000 bADOF_ShapeDistortEnable=0 bADOF_ShapeChromaEnable=0 fADOF_ShapeWeightCurve=0.500000 fADOF_ShapeDistortAmount=0.000000 bADOF_ShapeDiffusionEnable=0 fADOF_ShapeDiffusionAmount=0.000000 bADOF_ShapeWeightEnable=0 iADOF_ImageChromaHues=20 iADOF_ShapeChromaMode=0 fADOF_ImageChromaCurve=2.000000 fADOF_ImageChromaAmount=3.273000
You may have to manually type it in certain values to adjust them. Just keep spam-clicking in the box until it gives you the typing cursor or use the .ini file.
CONTROLS All of these are remappable once in game. (make sure numberpad is enabled or the controls won't work) -Toggle ReShade menu on-off - Shift+F2. -Toggle all ReShade effects - Scroll lock -Toggle depth-of-field - / on numberpad -Toggle camera and lenz distortion (zoom and warping in corners of screen) & chromatic aberration (color bleeding on objects' edges) - 2 on numberpad -Toggle sharpness - 5 on numberpad -Toggle film grain - 3 on numberpad -Black bars (letterbox) - 0 on numberpad -Bloom and lens effects - 6 on numberpad -Vignette (darkness around the corners) - * on numberpad -Ambient Light (Controls certain lens-dirt effects) - . (Decimal point) on numberpad -Toggle TiltShift (blur on Bayek, towards the bottom of the screen) - 8 on numberpad -Clarity (off by default, enable to more-or-less sharpen the image more and make the image pop more, unrealistic, but looks cool) - 7 on numberpad -Toggle GuassianBlur (off by default, used to smoothen out image and give, I think, a more realistic, though less-visually stunning look) - 9 on numberpad -Toggle soft DoF on horizon (distant landscape) - 1 on numberpad -Test heavy DoF - minus-key on numberpad. DO NOT USE BOTH MATSO DOF (which is what i have enabled by default) AND this test DoF, called MartyMcFlyDOF AT THE SAME TIME. Not only will it look ugly together, but this test DoF is so graphics-intensive that I can't even use it alone without a massive FPS hit. So Disable the Matso DOF first. I recommend opening the ReShade GUI's setting's menu and changing the following: Toggle ReShade on and off with the END key Toggle ReShade menu/gui with F4
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Abridged Version of instructions: Download latest version of ReShade from here: https://reshade.me/ Run the .exe in admin mode and select ACOrigins.exe in your Assassins Creed Origins main folder. (if installed to Steam's default location, can usually be found here: "... Steam\SteamApps\common\Assassins Creed Origins" Choose the DirectX 10+ version Say yes when it ask if you want to download a collection of shaders. Have these following shaders selected and deselect any of the effects not listed here:
AdaptiveSharpen Border Clarity Curves Tonemap Technicolor2 FilmGrain DOF (depth of field) LightDoF Bloom Vignette AmbientLight TiltShift GuassianBlur
Now download my preset here with the "download" button below. Rename that file "anythingyouwant.ini", the most important part is that the files name now ends ".ini" instead of ".txt" like it did when you downloaded it. Put that file in your game's main folder where you found ACOrigins.exe and where your reshade-shaders folder should now also be installed. Recently I've needed to rename my reshade files, "dxgi.ini" and "dxgi.dll" to "d3d11.ini" and "d3d11.dll", respectively, to get the game to stop crashing on launch. Run your game and after you get a message in a grey box saying reshade effects have loaded, press Shift+F2 simultaneously to open the in-game ReShade GUI. Select the .ini file from that drop down menu. Toggle the effect with scroll-lock key. You can change these keys in the ReShade's settings menu. Click continue until the boxes go from red to gray/clear. Now follow the steps in the Critical Instructions section. Done. Your new ReShade should be making your game look fapping sexy by this point.
Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Download the Reshade 3.0.8 (or latest version if different) from here https://reshade.me/ 2. Scroll to bottom of page and download whatever the latest version advertised is. Run the .exe that you just downloaded. Probably best to copy it to your desktop or somewhere first outside your downloads folder. Follow the steps it tells you selecting yes everything it asks. 2. Select your "ACOrigins.exe" which is in the main folder of the game. 3. Select the DirectX 10+ version after you select the "ACOrigins.exe" 4. Run your game, if it crashes on launch, then -- rename my reshade files, "dxgi.ini" and "dxgi.dll" to "d3d11.ini" and "d3d11.dll", respectively, to get the game to stop crashing on launch. Run your game again. As your game loads up, you should see a grey box popup in the top of the screen saying it's loading all the reshade effects. Once it's done, hit "shift+F2" and follow the promps. The most important thing is to hit the plus symbol next near the top of the Reshade GUI and type any name you want. Follow the other prompts until the boxes turn from red to black or grey or whatever indicates you're done with the very short tutorial. You can leave your game open or close it for this next step. 5. Go back to your game's main folder, where the "ACOrigins.exe" is and look for that file you just created with whatever name you gave. It should be a .ini file. 6. Open the .ini file and replace all the text with the text from my preset on this page. Save the file. Run your game or alt tab back to it. And then do step 7 if you your game is still running. 7. Reopen the Reshade GUI with Shift+f2 and click the click "reload". The new effects should start loading with my custom settings. PROFIT!
UNINSTALLING 1. Delete the Reshade folder, dxgi.ini, dxgi.dll, and dxgi.log from your game folder. That's it. Enjoy, leave comments below if you're having trouble installing or better yet youtube a Resahde 3.0+ install guide. It's extremely easy. You may notice a slight decrease in performance, but it should still be pretty similar FPS to what you usually get. The visual difference is night and day to me and I can't ever go back to vanilla.

Thanks for all your Reshades man! Not just for ACO, but all of them. I've been using quite a few in different games, and they really add a great unique atmosphere. Keep it up :)

Hey AD, what values do I modify to increase the distance at which the blurriness occurs for the DOF parts of the reshade.

I love how the DOF looks, but sonetimes I feel like the bluriness is to close.

shadow85
11 Apr 13:01 CEST

Or when I disable martyDOF or MagicDof the white bloom over the textures dissapears

shadow85
11 Apr 02:09 CEST

Hi AD, thanks for the reply.

I think it is just HDR that is causing the weird white bloom on surfaces. When I disable HDR everything looks good.

AssassinsDecree
10 Apr 15:50 CEST

Very odd that the DoF is causing any bloom, it shouldn't. It should be using MatsoDOF by default though. Also, I have not configured MagicDoF at all, so I wouldn't expect it to be usable without further comfiguration. I did configure Marty's DoF though. And certainly don't use both at once :)

shadow85
10 Apr 14:54 CEST

Upon further testing, I found out that it is MartysDOF or MagicDOF that causes the strange blooming on textures in HDR10 mode.

shadow85
10 Apr 13:15 CEST

Hmm ok, it seems that all the glitches and extreme bluriness I was getting before was because of Windows Insiders Preview.

I uninstalled it, and now this reshade works as intended for me. So I tried this preset although it does look cinematic, I did not like the drop in saturation.

So I am using only, all the DOF parts to this reshade and it looks really good.

I wish HDR+reshade would work properly though, unfortunately HDR makes certain lighting bloom out considerably making the image appear very unatural and strange.

So I have decided to use this mods DOF parts and play with RGB Full 8b instead of HDR 10b. :)

@Saytin,
Responded on YouTube

@shadow
I understand, true HDR must be amazing. You should be able to disable all the other effects that deal with lighting and color changes and just keep DOF and Light DoF activated. Make an adjustment to any value in the bottom portion of the reshade menu (which saves your settings) and you should have the DOF without messing up your HDR. But I can't say if it'll with for sure. Thanks for checking out my reshade, btw!

shadow85
27 Mar 05:14 CEST

@AssassinsDecree fair enogh I do understand that reshade tries to make colors look better and what HDR is suppose to do.

But I turned HDR off and tried several Reshades and they do appear to make SDR ACO look better but when I tried with real HDR only I could easily notice better color/realism.

The only thing Iike better about reshade though is the DOF and blurr.

So ive gotten the reshade downloaded with the Ac.exe. It says it installed,i loaded the preset saved as (.ini). Everything seems to be there however when I open the game I dont see that grey box and when I hit f2 nothing happens. Game doesnt crash and Ive started it multiple times as well as reinstall the reshade and preset and its the same. Says its installed to Ac origin. Idk what to do lol,my first mod ever.

AssassinsDecree
27 Mar 00:47 CEST

ok. most good reshades do what HDR does already though, just fyi. But i understand, if you're happy with what you've got, then all the better. Take care dude!

shadow85
27 Mar 00:42 CEST

Well I uninstalled it because I just realised Reshade does not work well with HDR enabled.

AssassinsDecree
26 Mar 07:39 CEST

Well it would just be the tiltshift and maybe the border that wouldn't scale, which you can disable instantly with the hotkeys I mentioned. All the color correction and DoF, bloom, lens effects, etc. will still be working as intended. Just press 8 on the numberpad when you load up in game to disable tiltshift.

shadow85
26 Mar 03:13 CEST

Ok thanks AD,sorry for ranting. Just been super frustrated lately. I need to have more sex and stop playing games lol

Anyways, I think as you stated this mod does not scale well for everyone. Because I have definitly done all the steps correctly and I know I have becauae I have used Reshade/sweetfx for the past 5 years and installed them on various platforms using various methods.

So, it did not scale well for me, and I am also using HDR display. Sux though, koz your reshade does look to be one of the best.

Gonna try some other ones tonight and see the results.

AssassinsDecree
25 Mar 10:13 CEST

it doesn't matter which order you do steps 1 and 2 in the critical instructions section in, so long as you've installed the reshade files from reshade.me first... hmm, perhaps that's how I'll preface the critical instructions section.

I appreciate your feedback, thanks.

AssassinsDecree
25 Mar 10:10 CEST

Black bars all over the screen? The only black bars I've added should be from letterboxing (border) and should take up only the amount of the screen that they do in my pictures. Changing the settings in the critical instructions setting, whether done right or wrong, should have no impact on this, so I don't think it's a matter of you having installed it wrong or me giving you the wrong instructions, rather, I suspect your the effect somehow hasn't scaled properly on your display for some reason.

Same thing with the blur, if you've already done the steps in the critical instructions section, then it's probably caused by tiltshift, which I mention on the page. (just double checking you hit the reload button after making the changes?).

You can reduce the size of the border (letterboxing) with the reshade menu. You can toggle it off with 0 on the numberpad. You can turn off tiltshift 8 on the numberpad.

Let me know if this helps, please.

AssassinsDecree
25 Mar 09:37 CEST

I get what you're saying, perhaps I may take another look at the instructions, but I do think most people will just blow-past all the instructions if I don't have the critical section up high as it is. In fact, I initially used to put the critical part lower, but got feedback saying the exact opposite of yours, where users suggested having those critical instructions as high as possible was better, because most people do ignore the instructions, thinking it's installed like most other reshades.

The differences in the step-by-step and abridged instructions are negligible. Following either will get you, essentially, the same results. I can see making them both say the same thing though. I'll change it when I have time, but they lead to the same visual results as is.

AssassinsDecree
25 Mar 09:32 CEST

It is optimized with the HDR option off, as I don't have a display that supports HDR. Can't hurt to try it with it on though.

shadow85
25 Mar 05:41 CEST

Well, all I get is a extremly blurry screen with black blocks all over the screen.

I don't know if I have installed it correctly because your instructions are a fucking mess!

And is critical instruction step 2 meant to done after or before critical instruction step 1? Because it seems like it meant to be done before as you are copying over a modified reshade-shaders folder, but in your instructions it is after!

I don't get your messed up instructions man.

shadow85
25 Mar 05:17 CEST

And another question is, can this be used with HDR enabled display?

shadow85
25 Mar 04:58 CEST

Yes Ok thanks I understand, but I think it is super confusing to have something at the beginning of the install, that is actually meant to be done after the install.

And then have 2 instruction sets that slightly differ from each other. For example, in the bridged instruction, you say select only some of the options that you have written when installing/downloading the reshade into the game folder, then in your step instruction you say select everything and press ok! Lol!

Super confusing! You should just redo the entire instruction in step form from start to finish how it should, I think that would be much better and organized! Lol

AssassinsDecree
24 Mar 17:41 CET

Haha, the abridged version of the instructions is just a simpler, less spelled out version of the step-by-step instructions. The step by step is really just for people that have never installed reshade before or need a slow walk through of how to do it.

Do the critical instructions after installing via either abridged or step by step instructions. I have the critical instructions up so high because many people that install reshades frequently trend to blow pass most of the instructions because most reshades can be installed the same way, so I was hoping to grab their attention early with the critical part, because my reshade needs some additional install steps that most presets don't, because mine has more features and custom changes that most don't.

Sorry for the mess, tried to separate out as best I could, but my teachers always told me organization wasn't my strong point back in school, lol. They were right :D

shadow85
24 Mar 16:02 CET

I changed the name of the IMPORTANT section to Crashing and UI/HUD Fix and moved it higher up now.

AssassinsDecree
12 Feb 19:38 CET

Did you follow the steps in the IMPORTANT section? I can almost garantee it's probably caused by either the fullscreen setting or not renaming the .ini and .dll files:

For me the game crashes if I use any form of ReShade or SweetFx in fullscreen mode. So you must enable borderless window mode to use ReShade if yours also crashes when trying to load the game with Reshade enabled.

Tested at default in-game brightness. Use the in-game screen calibration setting to adjust your UI to fit into the letterbox (black bars).

Recently I've needed to rename my reshade files, "dxgi.ini" and "dxgi.dll" to "d3d11.ini" and "d3d11.dll", respectively, to get the game to stop crashing on launch.

ps: If you do both those and it still doesn't work, make sure you disable the Uplay-overlay and Steam overlay in the launcher's respective settings.

In your windows menu, type "calibrate display color" and click the control-panel box with the corresponding name from the search menu and the tool should launch... i assume it's on all windows systems by default. Follow the tool through and it should help you calibrate your monitor to the proper settings.

AssassinsDecree

Hey, yea tested everything at ultra settings, default brightness (50-percent), vsync on and off.

I did calibrate my monitor a few weeks ago, so and I remember raising the brightness or something slightly in the windows calibration tool program thing. Is yours darker than these pics?

Hi if its not too much to ask can u provide what is ur in-game settings as well.. like brightness for example. I don't want to edit much and want to use ur settings as it is. All ur reshade settings are so good. Wanna try everything. But I don't get the desired result without modifying the reshade settings. I know reasons can be with monitor settings as well. Jus wan to eliminate the possibility that in game settings are same as urs.. Please..
